Super Mario Odyssey Warps in a Release Date, New Mechanics

During Nintendo’s E3 2017 Spotlight video, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Odyssey will be releasing on October 27th, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.

Along with a firm release date, we also got a new look at gameplay for the upcoming platformer. Among the mechanics on display is one where Mario can toss his hat and possess objects and creatures for new abilities. Anything from taxis to dinosaurs, Goombas, and Bullet Bills were shown as being used by Mario to progress through a level or just for mischief. The other mechanic takes a page out of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds where Mario will become a version of his 2D sprite from the NES era, and navigate mini-levels along walls of the worlds Mario can visit.

Along with the gameplay reveals, we also got a look at some new Amiibo being made for Super Mario Odyssey. These Amiibo are from the game and feature Mario, Peach, and Bowser in white wedding attire. It has also been stated that other Amiibo will work with the game, but no details about which ones or what benefits they provide were given.

Super Mario Odyssey is shaping up very nicely, and is looking to be one of if not the biggest game for Nintendo this fall.
