Gearbox Software is almost certainly working on a new Borderlands game.
Whilst the studio’s first-person shooter Battleborn struggled to find a permanent home with most players, there is always one Gearbox title that doesn’t have any problem selling itself to its audience, no not Aliens: Colonial Marines, I’m am, of course, talking about Borderlands.
Speaking at PAX West this past week, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford addressed hopeful Borderland fans in the audience by saying that 90% of the Gearbox team are “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on.”
Now, this is by no means concrete evidence that Gearbox is actually working on a main series Borderlands game (Colonial Marines 2 anyone?), it continues to remain unannounced at the time of writing, however, Pitchford’s recent claim is a pretty strong indication of its apparent existence.
Borderlands has proved to be one of the studio’s more popular series’ alongside Half-Life and Duke Nukem, with the series’ previous entry: Borderlands: The Pre Sequel released in 2014 for a host of platforms including Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Gearbox Software currently employs around 300 staff at its base in Texas, with a smaller studio recently opening in Quebec City, Canada.
