During the Crash Bandicoot Then and Now panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, publisher Activision announced that previously unfinished level Stormy Ascent is now available for free with Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
Originally intended for release with Naughty Dog’s debut on the PlayStation, Crash Bandicoot‘s Stormy Ascent level was never finished and therefore, never released with the original game when it first launched in 1996. Developer Vicarious Visions completed the level featuring vial-throwing lab assistants, flying birds and iron spikes and now for the first time ever, players can enjoy Stormy Ascent in its entirety by downloading it from the PlayStation Store free of charge until August 19th.
“We’re excited to release Stormy Ascent, the infamous unfinished level from the original game for the very first time. And it’s free to fans for the first month. We look forward to watching some epic speed runs online!” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, who would also reveal that N. Sane Trilogy had topped psychical sales for the month of June.
“Finally seeing Crash fans have the chance to play Stormy Ascent all these years later is very exciting,” added Shuhei Yoshida, President of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios.
Additionally, we also learned during the panel that Crash will feature in a hard back cover book created by Dark Horse Comics titled The Crash Bandicoot Files: How Willy the Wombat Sparked Marsupial Mania which will debut in March 2018. If that wasn’t enough, fans can also now send each other Crash emojis by downloading the free CrashMoji app.
Last but not least, Loot Crate has confirmed that it will celebrate the return of the iconic marsupial with Bandicoot Booty, an exclusive Crash Bandicoot T-shirt. Featured in July’s crate is a postcard-style T-shirt straight from N. Sanity Beach that features fan-favourite character Aku Aku. Fans can get one by ordering before 6 am BST on 27th July at lootcrate.com/gaming.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available now on PS4 and PS4 Pro.
