Dead Island 2 is alive and very much in development according to publisher Deep Silver.
A follow-up to Techland’s 2011 cooperative zombie romp had looked extremely unlikely following Deep Silver’s split from original developer Yager in 2015, and with little to no information regarding the development of Dead Island 2 since, the game appeared to be the victim of development hell.
However, in a statement sent to Eurogamer, Deep Silver insisted that development for Dead Island 2 was very much ongoing with current developer Sumo Digital (LittleBigPlanet 3, Forza Horizon 3) and that the publisher was excited by its progress.
“Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver’s most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will.”
Dead Island 2 was expected to release in 2015 but will now likely release at a far later date.
