Lords of the Fallen developer Deck 13’s action-RPG The Surge isn’t scheduled to release until May 16th but as is often the case users already have their hands on the game early and are sharing their experiences with it.
One lucky user managed to secure an early PS4 copy of the game and shared his impressions of it so far.
According to the user, The Surge‘s combat feels lighter and faster than Lords of the Fallen, but slightly slower than Dark Souls 3, he also goes on to say that it feels more like a mixture of Dark Souls 1 and 2.
As for the story itself, The Surge seems extremely cliche so far but the combat feels good/fun. The Surge‘s level design isn’t as “jaw-dropping” as Bloodborne or Dark Souls but the labyrinth nature of the level design from both are present.
Regarding the question of The Surge being too generic, the user had this to say, “Yeah, I mean, it is generic. But it also is fun. It’s really cool to play a souls game that feels like it and fight against robots and mechs. It won’t be a 10/10 game or 9/10 game. That being said, it is a fun game that is more like a 7.5 or 8/10 and those are necessary sometimes.”
Additionally, the user would also confirm that The Surge requires only 6GB’s to install on PS4, including the Day One Patch, which is surprisingly small for an RPG of this size.
The Surge is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC on May 16th, 2017.
