During the UBS Global Technology Conference earlier this week Electronic Arts’ CFO Blake Jorgensen shared his views on the current sales state of both the Xbox One and Playstation 4, predicting that the combined user base of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will reach around 50-51 million units worldwide by the end of 2015.
Jorgensen stated the following:
“Clearly, consoles have sold faster than everyone expected, We’re ahead of the previous cycle in terms of the pace. We’re on track to see, industry-wide, about 50-51 million units by the calendar year end. And typically, most of the consoles are sold in the last quarter of the year because a lot of it is around gift-giving. PlayStation 4 is the global sales leader with 29.4 million units shipped worldwide. Microsoft don’t plan on announcing Xbox One console shipment numbers going forward, however, but the company should be around the 20 million mark in terms of Xbox One’s shipped.”
The CFO for Electronic Arts was also asked for his views on the upcoming holiday sales;
“The power of the new consoles is fantastic, I think software makers are just now starting to truly harness the power. The first year, you had people testing and pushing, but now I think you’re starting to see, particularly this fall and winter, a lot really exciting pieces of software in the industry that are taking the processing power of the console.”
Star Wars Battlefront launched yesterday in North America for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, with Europe launching on the 19th.
