Ubisoft has unveiled information on Far Cry 5 and it promises to be a new evolution in the franchise.
Taking place in fictional Hope County, Montana in the United States, players will tackle a cult known as Eden’s Gate. Led by Joseph “The Father” Seed, Eden’s Gate has taken over the county and is preparing people for a societal collapse whether they want help or not. Seed isn’t alone though and has a loyal family helping him achieve his goals, each with their own goals, personalities, and agendas. The people of Montana though, aren’t going down without a fight, and there will be characters who will take up arms and join The Resistance if they are found.
Executive Producer and Creative Director Dan Hay explained that Ubisoft Montreal feels they have the tools to create a more impactful narrative in Far Cry 5:
“Games are maturing, and we’re getting closer and closer to films and television in terms of the stories we can tell and I think it means we can start to tackle situations and characters that are a little more complex. And so when we look at The Father, this guy who believes that the end of times is coming, and has built his own religion, it means that we can tackle that. Even though it’s a tough subject, it works in the game, and we feel like we can own it.”
Players will be able to create a custom character who becomes a new junior deputy of the county and are able to fully explore and play Far Cry 5 in either solo or co-op with another player. The player’s arrival puts Eden’s Gate’s plans into high gear. Players will also have access to the same variety of vehicles and weaponry enjoyed in previous Far Cry titles. Ubisoft also released a selection of screenshots and videos giving us our first look at the game in action.
More information is already being promised at Ubisoft’s E3 presentation to take place on June 12th at 1 PM PDT, or 8 PM GMT.
Far Cry 5 will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One, Project Scorpio and Windows PC February 27th, 2018.
