Universal Brand Development has announced that it will expand on this Summer’s blockbuster film The Mummy starring Tom Cruise with the release of The Mummy Demastered this August on consoles and PC.
Developed by WayForward, known for creating pixel games that bring the classic look of arcade games to modern consoles, The Mummy Demastered is a platforming adventure game based on the film, which debuts in theatres tomorrow and stars Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella.
“As Universal makes a strategic push into gaming, we felt The Mummy was the perfect place to start,” said Chris Heatherly, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Games and Digital Platforms, Universal Brand Development. “We worked with the best developers in their fields and took creative risks to imagine exciting new ways for fans to enter the Dark Universe.”
Launching in late August 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam, players will enter a world of evil as an elite Prodigium agent who is tasked to take down Princess Ahmanet’s army of the undead and save the world at any cost. Players will explore dark forests, maze-like military compounds and the sandstorm-filled streets of London in this retro-inspired adventure.
Additionally, Universal will also release an episodic mobile game for iOS and Android that will follow on from the conclusion of The Mummy entitled The Mummy Dark Universe Stories along with a unique VR experience The Mummy Prodigium Strike developed by Starbreeze and available in Los Angeles at Hollywood & Highland Center and at IMAX VR center in Los Angeles and New York City.
The Mummy Demastered launches August 22nd on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
