During Gamescom 2017 a new trailer for Ys Net’s Shenmue III dropped, giving fans and backers their first glimpse at the hotly anticipated sequel.
The profit of a record breaking Kickstarter campaign, raking in a cool $6 million, Shenmue III is a real thing, and it’s likely headed to PS4 and PC in 2018. 17 years after Shenmue II first released for Sega Dreamcast, fans will at long last reprise the role of skilled Martial Artist Ryo Hazuki who leaves Japan for China in search of his father.
Though not much is given away in the rather brief but equally pleasing trailer, Shenmue III has a very nostalgic feel to it, boasting many series tropes. For fans of the series, the trailer will undoubtedly be a very welcome sight after such a long absence, and though the evidently rigid character design might be subject to debate, it simply adds to the charm that surrounds the iconic series.
The recent announcement that publisher Deep Silver would distribute the game on PS4 and PC is a clear indication that Shenmue III is moving ever closer to a concrete release date, with 2018 slated. Check out the trailer below.
