Microsoft has ceased production of the original Xbox One.
Speaking to Glixel, a Microsoft spokesman said, “As is typical for the console industry, we stopped manufacturing the original Xbox One when we introduced Xbox One S.”
The news follows reports that the original Xbox One, Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox 360, was no longer available to consumers in the United Kingdom at the Microsoft store, though you can still purchase the Xbox One S.
Microsoft launched the Xbox One on November 22nd, 2013 at the hefty price of £429, £80 more expensive than the PS4 at the time despite not being nearly as powerful as Sony’s home console. Those tables are set to turn on November 7th when Microsoft launches Xbox One X, its fastest selling home console to date; a console capable of running games in true 4K.
The Xbox One X will launch this Fall with 100+ confirmed titles set for console enhancements including The Witcher 3, Quantum Break and Gears of War 4.
