A countdown timer has appeared on the official Duke Nukem website, indicating a possible future reveal for the next Duke Nukem game.
Coincidentally, a new Twitter account by the name @DukeNukemGame appeared online yesterday and has subsequently been followed by the I.P’s owner – Gearbox Software, creators of Borderlands, Half Life and Battleborn. Gearbox announced its acquisition of the Duke Nukem I.P back in 2010.
The recently added countdown timer appears to indicate a reveal of some sort set for next Saturday 1:30pm BST during Pax West, but what kind of reveal could we expect?
Well, with a large percent of titles currently undergoing HD makeover treatment i.e Skyrim, Batman and Crash Bandicoot it’s entirely plausible that we could see a remastered version of a past Duke Nukem game. If the banner is anything to go by then the signs could possibly point to a Duke Nukem 3D remaster. Originally released in 1996, Duke Nukem 3D featured on many platforms including both PC and PS3 and would be 20 year’s old this year.
Another possibility is that we might see the first Duke Nukem game since 2011’s Duke Nukem Forever, which came to the Xbox 360 and PS3 along with a PC version. Gearbox Software is promising “never-before-seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises” during its panel at PAX West, so a new game for the franchise is another major possibility.
