We could soon be seeing a whole lot more of Thief if reports are to be believed.
According to Film Production company Straight Up Films, who list Transcendence, The Education of Charlie Banks and Jane Got a Gun amongst its film credits, a fifth title in the stealth-based series will release alongside a film adaption.
The stealth-based series was last seen in 2014 when Thief, written by Rhianna Pratchett (Tomb Raider) and developed by Eidos Montreal (Deus Ex) released for multiple platforms including PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS4.
After receiving mixed reviews post-launch, it appears unlikely publisher Square Enix would entertain the idea of throwing more money at a franchise whose last outing flopped, especially given the fact that only yesterday we reported that SE was actively looking to sell off Hitman creator IO-Interactive after the reported financial loss of Agent 47’s recent episodic adventure.
With no film currently listed for a future release or currently in production by the name of Thief on IMDB.com, it’s hard to tell if there’s an ounce of truth to the production companies claims, which you can view below:
Thief is an action epic poised to be the next great multi-platform franchise. Originally released in 1998 by Eidos Interactive (Deus Ex) and distributed by Square Enix (Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy), the Thief series has spanned over fifteen years and four sequels continually retaining loyal audiences and attracting new fans with each iteration. Widely considered to be one of the greatest games ever created, a fifth sequel is currently in development to be released in step with this motion picture adaptation. Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero.
