The Overwatch League has announced the first seven owners of future teams in seven different cities.
In 2016, Blizzard announced the Overwatch league as a way to blend eSports with how traditional sports like football and baseball operate. Seven owners from both the traditional sports world and eSports world. The new teams will take root in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Miami-Orlando, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Seoul. The owners of these teams include Robert Kraft, CEO of the Kraft Group and the New England Patriots and Noah Wilson, CEO of Immortals.
The Overwatch League is expected to begin later this year, with the first season of play happening in an eSports arena in Los Angeles while teams find local venues for the future.
Overwatch is one of Blizzard’s most successful games in an already success-filled history and is the fastest to reach 30 million players. Combine that with eSports reportedly being watched by 285 million people worldwide last year, and the Overwatch League has a good chance for success when it debuts later this year.
