An image reported to be the map for Red Dead Redemption 2’s has surfaced online. The image, which was quickly removed was originally posted on the NeoGAF forums by user Mideon.
Online publication, Techradar reported “A source close to the development of the new Red Dead game has confirmed to us the map is indeed the real deal.” they went on to say that the leaked image is “a very recent art direction map.”
The large scale open world map, which you view below, shows Great Plains to the bottom left, a setting from Red Dead Redemption. The map also appears to show a few islands which could indicate that players will be able to swim in Red Dead Redemption 2, something not possible in Redemption.
Developer Rockstar has not yet officially announced Red Dead Redemption 2 but it is reported to be a prequel to the original title.
The map shows an absence of any type of railroad, a prominent feature throughout 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, although a railroad can be seen via the maps key in the upper left corner of the image. The map key also features Settlements, Camps and Gang Hideouts – all traits of Red Dead Redemption.
It is also worth noting that the leaked map features an area to the bottom right titled ‘Little Bordeaux’, a featured setting for Mafia III, published by Take-Two Interactive who previously published Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, it will be interesting to see what the link is between the two areas.
