US rating’s board ERSB have rated Resident Evil 7: Biohazard M for Mature, which isn’t exactly breaking news for a survival horror series that so often depicts gruesome, violent and bloody scenes in addition to grotesque monsters, however, the rating’s board also accidently revealed the game’s initial plot line, its location, and even its protagonist along with combat features and weapons.
While the rating for the seventh main title in the series has since been removed by ESRB, it contained the following “This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the role of Ethan, a man searching for his missing wife in a derelict mansion“. It’s no real secret at this stage that Resident Evil 7 will take place inside a large plantation but we find out the name of the game’s main character – Ethan.
The summary would go on to say “From a first-person perspective, players explore the environment and use pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures. Combat is accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects. As players progress through the story, cutscenes can depict instances of gore and intense acts of violence: a character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses with exposed organs/viscera.”
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was first revealed by Capcom during Sony’s E3 presser with a free playable demo “The Beginning Hour” released shortly afterward. Since its reveal in June Capcom has shared little details for Resident Evil 7 but did state that the playable demo would not feature in the main game and that the story would take place inside a Plantation in rural America.
Resident Evil 7 will be available in January 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 along with PlayStation VR and PC.
