SNES Classic Edition Coming to United States and Canada September 29th

Nintendo announced this morning that a mini version of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System will be gracing store shelves on September 29th in the United States and Canada in the SNES Classic Edition.

The 16-bit follow up to last-year’s NES Classic Edition, The SNES Classic Edition will include a total of 21 games including the never-before released Star Fox 2. The mini console will also come with two wired controllers out of the box and an HDMI cable inside. The length of the cable for the controllers is unknown at this time.

The SNES Classic Edition includes:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Earthbound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

With most of these titles being classics not just for the SNES but for video gaming in general, expect this to be a hotly contested gift for the holiday season. The SNES Classic Edition will cost $80 in the United States and $100 in Canada.

A European model will be releasing and will feature the form factor and colorful buttons of the classic PAL version of the SNES. However, the game list remains the same and no price has been announced at this time.
