Sony closed out its Paris Games Week 2017 conference with a cinematic glimpse at Naughty Dogs The Last of Us: Part II.
Our first real peek at the developers follow up to 2013’s rather brilliant The Last of Us features neither Ellie or Joel, but the violence witnessed in the short cutscene is enough of a striking statement nonetheless. Instead of the game’s two lead characters taking centre stage, we get a brief glimpse at some of The Last of Us: Part II‘s supporting cast, with extremely violent results.
The 2 minute-long scene, which is quite graphic in nature, introduces us to a group of individuals that appear to be a part of the revolutionary militia group best known to fans of the original as ‘The Fireflies’. Rain pours down, bodies hang from trees, and a car burns brightly in front of a building as the brutal torture of a Firefly by an unknown group escalates into a wave of arrows and bullets before the video wraps up with the introduction of a few infected. If nothing else, the trailer showcases mysterious new characters and a very dark side to the hotly anticipated sequel and PS4 exclusive.
No release date was listed for Part II during the conference, but we do know that Ellie will be the predominant playable character rather than Joel this time around.
