Independent publisher Devolver Digital today announced an open call to developers unable to attend GDC, to help showcase its games at the upcoming conference in San Francisco.
With Donald Trump now firmly in the White House and a travel ban in place preventing certain foreign countries from entering U.S soil, the Serious Sam, OlliOlli2 publisher announced plans to set up gaming PCs and possibly HTC Vive sets in order to demo games from various creators and developers affected by the ban in a nearby offsite location dubbed the ‘Devolver Underground’.
“One of my favourite things about games is that they are truly global in nature, transcending borders and cultural differences more seamlessly than other art forms, and working with different people from all over the world with wildly varying backgrounds has been a huge part of Devolver’s success and of our personal enjoyment of what we do,” said Mike Wilson, co-founder of Devolver Digital. ”
“We are happy to have the opportunity to help create a bridge in some small way for some of the talented developers who will unfortunately be unable to attend this year’s GDC.”
Devolver Digital’s open call to developers affected by the ban follows a recent outcry from fellow members of the video games industry opposing its very implementation, with Insomniac Games President Ted Price speaking out in the last few days.
