Doomfist Joins Overwatch’s Public Test Realm

The team at Blizzard have unveiled the long-teased character Doomfist and have unleashed him upon the Public Test Realm for the PC version.

In terms of story, Doomfist is a member of the Talon organization that also counts Reaper, Windowmaker, and Sombra among its members. After being imprisoned by Genji, Tracer, and Winston, Doomfist has broken out of jail and reclaimed his namesake gauntlet which he uses in combat to great advantage. He hails from the country of Nigeria and believes the best way to advance the human race is through conflict and seeks to sow those conflicts himself in combat.

Doomfist’s gameplay is, as you may have guessed, fist-focused, but he still has a projectile. He is an offense class character, and like most of the other characters has 200 hit points available. Doomfist’s primary fire comes from his left hand and is a short-range shotgun-like blast. It doesn’t appear to do a lot of damage on its own but should be perfect for mopping up kills. Doomfist’s abilities start with a Seismic Slam, which sees opponents drawn closer to Doomfist upon smashing the ground.

His second ability looks familiar for fans of Sagat from Street Fighter: a Rising Uppercut. The uppercut launches a foe up into the air with a little bit of forward momentum. Doomfist’s final active ability is the Rocket Punch. After being charged up, he lunges forward and knocks an enemy back. If the opposing player hits a wall, they will take extra damage. Doomfist also boasts a passive ability where when his abilities generate damage, they also generate temporary shields for himself.

Doomfist’s ultimate is the Meteor Strike which will send enemies running. He leaps into the air and the player can direct where he will land. Upon landing, significant damage is dealt to anyone within the area of effect.

Doomfist is so far only available in the Public Test Realm for PC, but expect him to be available on PS4 and Xbox One in the coming weeks. In the meantime, above is a fantastic anime-inspired origin trailer celebrating the new character.

Stephen has been an avid gamer for nearly 25 years, fighting alongside caped crusaders, Jedi, and biotic Asari along the way. He likes to try new things but frequently comes back to Overwatch.
