After a couple of delays, Rockstar Games finally announced a concrete release date for hotly anticipated western shooter Red Dead Redemption 2 last week.
Players will get their hands on the long overdue prequel to 2010’s western shooter from October 26th on Xbox One and PS4 but since the games first announcement, information has been scarce on what we can expect when the game officially launches later this year. Thanks to a recent report by website Trusted Reviews though, we have potentially learned of many features and modes that will be included in Red Dead Redemption 2.
According to a bundle of developer notes obtained by the publication several months ago, Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature many new and returning elements including a Battle Royale mode for multiplayer and first-person perspective for the games solo campaign and multiplayer.
The article states that Red Dead Redemption 2‘s multiplayer will feature at least 3 modes with Battle Royale, Revive and Survive and Money Grab. While the first is pretty self-explanatory, Revive and Survive will feature 2 teams fighting it out amongst each other with the option to revive a downed ally within a select time limit. Money Grab, on the other hand, has 2 teams squabbling over treasured loot before looking to return it back to their respective bases as quickly as possible for the big W.
The online world of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be similar in vein to that of GTA Online with players free to explore the landscape of their own free will but with far more depth this time around. Exploring the vast open world, players will find plenty to keep themselves occupied with the option to complete tasks such as firing an arrow at an enemy from 100 metres, buy up and upgrade homes that come in the form of tents, while a companion app is mentioned that will feature more games to play such as Poker.
Other things to do inside the world include the option to mine for gold, partake in a spot of fishing, herd cattle and various weapon challenges while Wanted Levels make a return that will rise or lower depending on the player’s actions out in the sprawling world.
As for traversal of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s sprawling terrain, players will have the luxury of using minecarts, handcarts and horse-drawn carriages (both armoured and non-armoured) to explore their surroundings, and railway trains can be used to travel around various locations in the world.
Red Dead Redemption featured a third-person perspective both in single player and multiplayer when it released in 2010, Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand, will allow the player to enjoy both facets from a first-person perspective. Additionally, the campaign will feature side-quests, random events inspired by Grand Theft Auto V‘s Strangers and Freaks and RDR’s slow-mo feature Dead Eye makes a return along with all new abilities that allow the player to track bounties and detect nearby animals.
According to the publication, it obtained the information several months ago but held off on reporting on it until official press releases from Rockstar began to marry up with the information Trusted Review’s had received.
Rockstar Games has promised to share more information on Red Dead Redemption 2 in the coming weeks.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on October 26th, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
