Starting on January 10th, the inaugural season of the Overwatch League has closed it’s initial stage with a special reverse sweep from the London Spitfire against the New York Excelsior.
Through the regular first stage, the London Spitfire found themselves as the number three seed behind the Houston Outlaws and the New York Excelsior. The Outlaws fell to the Spitfire and Birdring’s and Profit’s combined damage output 1-3. Then, the Spitfire set their sights on the number one seed: the Excelsior.
The Excelsior looked ready to oust the Spitfire in a clean sweep only for the Spitfire to rebound and take three maps in a row to secure the win. What broke New York? London managed to find a way to force Excelsior to take their time coming after them, and the Excelsior didn’t alter their strategy of a Genji-Tracer DPS combination. It cost the Excelsior first place. The Spitfire won $100,000 while the Excelsior earn $25,000 for 2nd place.
The League is on a short hiatus at the moment but will return on February 21st with the start of Stage 2. There, Seoul Dynasty and the Los Angeles Valiant will kick off the new stage. You can catch Overwatch League live via their website, app (iOS or Android) and on Twitch.
