Nintendo Switch has become the fastest selling console in US history, says Nintendo.
According to Nintendo’s internal sales figures, the companies latest console has sold more than 4.8 million units in the United States in the 10 months following its release in March 2017. The figure makes Nintendo Switch the fastest selling console over the course of its first 10 months, surpassing previous record holder Nintendo’s very own Wii in the process.
Obviously extremely pleased is Nintendo of America’s President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime who had this to say: “Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond.”
Nintendo also showed off its software figures, which much like the hybrid consoles figures make impressive reading. In the US alone, more than 60% of Switch owners purchased Super Mario Odyssey while more than 55% of owners have been enjoying The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Elsewhere, 50% of owners bought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and 20% bought Splatoon 2 20%. But it’s not all about first-party games.
In the 10 months following its launch, Nintendo Switch owners have enjoyed an assortment of third-party titles such as Skyrim, Minecraft, Overcooked, Rocket League, DOOM, FIFA 18 and Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 and can look forward to even more throughout 2018 with Nintendo published games such as Kirby Star Allies, Bayonetta and 2 and an untitled Yoshi game, plus the continuation of third-party support from Bethesda with Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Red Barrels’ Outlast games, Layers of Fear and plenty more.
