Blizzard has announced a slew of new content coming to the popular first-person team-based shooter Overwatch in the months ahead.
First, a new character was announced in Moira, Overwatch‘s sixth support character. Moira hails from Ireland and is an accomplished geneticist. Moira uses her Biotic Grasp as her weapon against single enemies and as a healing beam to allies. She also uses a Biotic Orb to heal multiple allies or damage multiple enemies. Similar to Reaper, Moira also can teleport short distances using her Fade ability. Lastly, her ultimate ability is called Coalescence. Using this, Moira can heal multiple enemies and damage multiple enemies at once using a long-range beam that also bypasses barriers. Details like how long cool downs are, or effective ranges are unknown at this time.
Overwatch will also be seeing a new map come forward that pays homage to Blizzard’s legacy of titles. Blizzard World will be a hybrid map like Numbani where players will need to capture a payload and then escort it to the end of the map. Blizzard World is an amusement park setting that will have areas based on Warcraft, Starcraft, Heroes of the Storm, and more.
If that wasn’t enough cross-game action for you, Overwatch characters will soon be sporting new skins and other cosmetic items based off of Blizzard’s other titles. Examples of these are in the gallery like Zarya as Diablo‘s Barbarian, or Torbjorn as Warcraft‘s Magni Bronzebeard. These and other cosmetic items will appear in the regular loot boxes sometime in “early 2018”.
While Moira currently doesn’t have a target window, Blizzard World will arrive in early 2018 as well. Expect for Moira and Blizzard World to hit the Public Test Realm on PC before they arrive on Xbox One and PS4. These additions are sure to drag Overwatch fans back into playing, while we all mourn that Blizzard World isn’t a real thing.
