Sony announced with the overnight release of its latest financial results that the PS4 has now shipped 76.5 million units worldwide.
Despite a decline in sales of 700,000 year-on-year, Sony still managed to ship a cool 9 million units over a 3 month period ended December 31st, 2017. And with the latest figure, the PS4 console is edging ever closer to passing the lifetime sales of predecessor PS3, which currently stands at 83.8 million units.
2017 was also a very productive year for software with Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn, and Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Lost Legacy among many PS4 exclusives making their debut in 2017, all of which directly contribute to Sony posting a rather tidy profit of 718 billion yen.
The PS4 first launched back in November 2013 in the UK and US and arrived in Japan in February 2014.
