Wii Shop Channel Shuts Down in 2019

The Wii Shop Channel will officially shut down in 2019, Nintendo has announced.

First reported by Gematsu, the closure date for the Wii Shop Channel is set for January 31st, 2019 with users no longer able to purchase titles or apps from the channel for either the Wii or Wii U on or after that date.

Furthermore, from March 27th, 2018, users will no longer be able to add Wii points to their account, though those who have already purchased WiiWare or Virtual Console games will continue to be able to re-download the content along with the system transfer that allows for item movement between Wii and Wii U.

Wii U users will be able to continue to download content using the Nintendo eShop.
